The South African Astronomical Observatory is an observatory located in Sutherland, South Africa 32°22′46″S, 20°48′38.5″E. It is run by South Africa's National Research Foundation and was designed to search for extrasolar planets.

The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) is a ~10 metre (~33 feet) diameter optical telescope, located in the semi-desert region of the Karoo, South Africa. It is a facility of the South African Astronomical Observatory, the national optical observatory of South Africa.

SALT is the biggest optical telescope in the southern hemisphere, and equal to the largest in the world. It will enable photography and analysis of the radiation from astronomical objects out of reach of northern hemisphere telescopes. It was originally planned to be a copy of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory, but while adapting the construction plans, significant changes were introduced to its design, especially to the secondary mirror assembly. The main driver for these changes were desired improvements to the telescope's field of view.

Palomar Observatory is a privately owned observatory located in San Diego County, California, 90 miles (145 km) southeast of Mount Wilson Observatory, on Palomar Mountain. It is owned and operated by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The observatory currently consists of four main instruments: the 200 inch (5.08 m) Hale Telescope, the 48 inch (1.22 m) Samuel Oschin Telescope, the 18 inch (457 mm) Schmidt telescope, and a 60 inch (1.52 m) reflecting telescope. In addition, the Palomar Testbed Interferometer is located at this observatory.

Onizuka Air Force Station is a United States Air Force installation in Sunnyvale, California at the intersection of Highway 101 and California State Route 237. Its main building is large, pale blue, windowless, known locally as the Blue Cube, with an array of parabolic dish antennas used for communication with remote tracking stations used to control military satellites. Onizuka AFS is operated by the 21st Space Operations Squadron, a geographically separated unit (GSU) of the 50th Space Wing.

Built in 1960 on land near Moffett Field, purchased from Lockheed Martin (then Lockheed), the station was originally known as the Air Force Satellite Test Center. It was later renamed the Air Force Satellite Control Facility, and Sunnyvale Air Force Station. In 1986, the base was renamed in honor of Lt. Col. Ellison Onizuka, one of the astronauts who, on January 28, 1986, died in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. On January 26, 1994 Onizuka AFB was renamed Onizuka AFS.

Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt is located on the North West coast of Australia, 6km north of Exmouth, Western Australia.

The station was commissioned on September 16, 1967. On September 20, 1968, the station was officially renamed to US Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt in memory of the late Harold Holt, former Prime Minister of Australia, who died three months after the station was commissioned.
