In 1928 when the Kop was redesigned and extended to accommodate 30,000 spectators with a huge roof erected. It was the largest Kop in the country, and was able to hold more supporters than some entire football grounds, it remained virtually unaltered until 1994, when it was turned into an all-seater stand following the Taylor Report.

The Kop was rebuilt in 1994 after the Taylor Report and became all seated, although it is still a single tier, the capacity was significantly reduced to 12,390.

The Walter Pyramid, formerly known as the Long Beach Pyramid, is the on-campus basketball and volleyball arena for the NCAA college basketball and college volleyball teams of Long Beach State University 49ers. Finished in 1994, it is located in Long Beach, California. It is a large pyramid-shaped building, uniformly clad in sheets of dark blue corrugated aluminum; it seats 5,000 spectators.

The Southern California Summer Pro League uses the Pyramid during July. The league is a showcase for current and prospective NBA basketball players, including recent draft picks, current NBA players working on their skills and conditioning, and international professionals hoping to become NBA players.

Although it is the home of LBSU basketball and volleyball teams, professional teams like the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs play at the Long Beach Sports Arena, a bigger facility that is located closer to the downtown area of Long Beach, as did the Long Beach Jam, who have since relocated to Bakersfield.
