Stonecutters Bridge is a high level cable-stayed bridge which spans the Rambler Channel in Hong Kong, connecting Nam Wan Kok, Tsing Yi Island and Stonecutters Island. It will have the longest cable-stayed span in the world.

The approaches at Tsing Yi and Stonecutters Island are located near Container Terminal 9 and Container Terminal 8, respectively. Construction commenced on 27th April, 2004 and is expected to be completed in June 2008 by Maeda–Hitachi–Yokogawa–Hsin Chong Joint Venture. It costs HK$ 2,760 million.

The bridge is part of Hong Kong's Route 8, connecting Sha Tin, Cheung Sha Wan, Tsing Yi Island, Ma Wan and Lantau Island. Other major constructions along the route are Nam Wan Tunnel (under-construction), Eagle's Nest Tunnel (under-construction), Sha Tin Heights Tunnel (under-construction), Tsing Ma Bridge (completed in 1997) and Kap Shui Mun Bridge (completed in 1997).

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, also known as the Cooper River Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River in South Carolina, connecting downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant. The eight lane bridge satisfied the capacity of U.S. Highway 17 when it opened in 2005 to replace two obsolete cantilever truss bridges. The bridge has a main span of 1,546 feet (471 m), the longest among cable-stayed bridges in the Western Hemisphere. It was built using the design-build method and was designed by Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Groundbreaking on the bridge occurred in 2001 in Mount Pleasant. The bridge was built as a design-build project, meaning that one contract was signed to both design and construct the bridge. This meant that construction could begin even while the design was not yet finalized. The bridge was built by a joint venture of two major construction firms operating under the name Palmetto Bridge Constructors. The joint venture partners were Tidewater Skanska of Norfolk, Virginia and Flatiron Constructors of Longmont, Colorado. The construction joint venture hired Parsons Brinckerhoff to complete the design. For the sake of simplifiying labor and equipment resources, Palmetto Bridge Constructors actually managed the building of the bridge as five separate projects (the two highway interchanges at either end of the bridge, the two approach spans, and the cable-stayed span) going on simultaneously.

The Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) is a railway tunnel under construction in Switzerland. With a planned length of 57 km (35 miles) and a total of 153.5 km (95 miles) of tunnels, shafts and passages planned, it will be the longest railway tunnel in the world upon completion, ahead of the current record holder, the Seikan Tunnel. The project is designed to feature two separate tunnels containing one track each. The tunnel is part of the Swiss AlpTransit project, also known as New Railway Link through the Alps NRLA which also includes the Lötschberg Base Tunnel between the cantons of Berne and Valais. Like the Lötschberg tunnel, it is intended to bypass winding mountain routes and establish a direct route suitable for high speed rail and heavy freight trains. On completion it is expected to decrease the current 3.5 hours travel time from Zürich to Milan by one hour. The two portals will be near the villages of Erstfeld, Canton Uri and Bodio, Canton Ticino. Completion has been projected for 2015 but due to delays the tunnel may only be completed as late as 2017. Nearby are two more St. Gotthard Tunnels: the 1881 railway tunnel and the 1980 road tunnel.

HSB Turning Torso is a skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden on the Swedish side of the Oresund strait. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and officially opened on 27 August 2005. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 stories. Upon completion, it was the tallest building in Scandinavia, and Europe's second highest apartment building, after the 264-metre-high Triumph-Palace in Moscow.

The 84 meter high Kronprinsen was the tallest building in Malmö before Turning Torso.

The design is based on a sculpture by Santiago Calatrava called Twisting Torso. It uses nine five-story cubes that twist as it rises; the top-most segment is twisted ninety degrees clockwise with respect to the ground floor. Each floor basically consists of a rectangular section surrounding the central core, along with a triangular section, which is partially supported by an exterior steel scaffold. The two bottom cubes are intended as office space. Cubes three through nine house 149 luxury apartments.

The Palm, Jumeirah began construction in June 2001 and was expected to be completed in 2006. Due to design changes the expected completion date is now December 2007. There are plans for three five-star hotels to be built on The Palm, Jumeirah each with a distinctive national theme: Okinawa, Brazil, and Venice. The Palm's leaves will be covered in luxury holiday homes, when these went on sale in 2004, they were all sold with in three days of being put on the market; notable purchasers include the Beckhams.

The Palm is constructed of sand islands that are made of sand dredged from the bottom of the Gulf which is conveniently narrow, and shallow, and the sand was then sprayed by the dredging ships, which were guided by GPS, onto the required area in a process known as rainbowing. On the outside of the outer ring of the island there is a huge breakwater constructed of carefully placed rocks that were collected by blasting.

Dutch scientists were called in, because of their experience of changing the land of their own nation, to study the area and perfect the plans to make sure the island would remain intact over time and through storms, and function correctly. However, the owners refused to wait until they had completed their investigation, and ordered construction to commence immediately. After the island had been constructed, the Dutch scientists discovered that the tide could not reach all around the palm and if left, the water would stagnate at the top of the palm, and it would become a haven for algae and mosquitos. The owners saw this as unacceptable and ordered action to be taken immediately. The scientists then came up with the current design, which has two channels through the outer ring, each about a quarter of the way around from the nearest end. These channels allow the tide to come in through the sides as well, and this means that all of the water in the palm is replaced every two weeks.

The Palm, Jebel Ali began construction in October 2002 and is expected to be completed in late 2007. It is intended to be a tranquil place of rest, once both have been completed it will be encircled by the Dubai Waterfront project, which is a series of islands which make up a curve of diminishing width which reaches around The Palm, Jebel Ali. It includes boardwalks that circle the 'fronds' of the 'palm' and spell out an Arabic poem by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum:

The Palm Islands in Dubai are the three largest artificial islands in the world, being constructed by Al Nakheel Properties in the United Arab Emirates. Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree topped with a crescent and will have residential communities and resorts built upon them. It is possible to make these islands due to the wide continental shelf off the Dubai coast and the relatively shallow depth of the Persian Gulf.
